Research using Tensilica's Technology
Tsinghua University's Microprocessor & SoC Technology Research Centre uses Tensilica's processor generator technology, specifically XPRES compiler and Tie compiler tools for several different course curriculums (Advanced Computer Architecture, CPU Design, Computer Principles, and Technologies of Computer Interfaces) to help students to understand the fundamental principles of CPU architecture, VLSI design flows, and advanced compiler technologies.
Tensilica tools will be used in our curriculums to help students to understand the architecture of CPU, the related design flow, the hardware/software interfaces, the compiler and the performance tuning and so on. In a word, it will present a vivid and round picture of the processor architecture and related software system for our students. Students will complete some CPU design experiments based on Tensilica tools. For example, to complete an optimized architecture for some application-specific target. Then, some excellent designs will be delivered, which may be valuable for applications in practice
Now our center has established an EDA design lab equipped with 20 PCs/workstations and EDA design software (Cadence, Synopsis and Mentor). After deployed with Tensilica tools, it will cover most design fields of IC and system.
Curriculum and Courses
- Advanced Computer Architecture (96 periods)
- CPU Design (32 periods)
- Computer Principles (96 periods)
- Technologies of Computer Interfaces (64 periods)
In our estimation, more than 50 students/assistants will use Tensilica tools per year and half of them are graduate students or PhD candidates.
Of course, we are very interested in participating in college recruiting programs with Tensilica.
