Courses
LIST OF UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE COURSES AT THE ECE DEPARTMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALY
- Ioannis Katsavounidis - CE550/CE672
“Digital Video and Audio Compression”
This course deals with the fundamentals of video and audio compression (information theory, signal theory, stochastic processes, linear algebra), followed by a thorough examination of the most popular video compression standards (MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264). A number of multimedia processing architectures are presented, namely Intel’s x86 and MMX/SSE technology, TI DSP and Tensilica’s reconfigurable Xtensa processor. A term project on one of these video codecs, running on a computing platform is part of the requirements for this class.
- Nikolaos Bellas - CE658
“Advanced Computer Architecture”
This is an advanced course on the organization of modern high performance processors and multi-core systems. The course will cover all aspects of modern processors including cache design, fetching mechanisms, superscalar, multi-threading, and out-of-order execution. Compiler optimizations for high performance processors. Design of multi-core systems, synchronization, and cache coherence.
The course will emphasize reconfigurable computing as an alternative computing paradigm. A number of reconfigurable paradigms will be analyzed with emphasis on FPGAs and architectures such as Tensilica’s Xtensa processor.
- Georgios I. Stamoulis – CE330
“VLSI System Design”
This is an advanced VLSI design course, which includes dynamic logic families, timing analysis, signal integrity analysis, transistor size optimization. The lab includes demonstration of the use of Tensilica’s solutions.
