IIT Research
System Design in Silicon has gone through a revolutionary change in the last decade. Systems engineering has seen a sea of changes with the advent of reconfigurable platforms like FPGA's, CPLD's, ASIP design frameworks, MP-SoC's, VLIW and Superscalar Architectures, Retargetable Compiler Technologies to name a few. However, incorporating this advanced technologies in the engineering curriculum can't be realized simply because of the fact that universities lack the tools support required to put the algorithms and applications into practical architectures. Hence, the department is considering Tensilica's Xpress compiler technology, ISA customization framework and MP-SoC design environments as ideal tool-suites for updating courses like embedded systems, advanced computer architecture and compiler construction with topics like ASIP design methodology, MP-SoC design and related course projects.
Apart from the modification in course work as mentioned, several research topics can benefit from the above tool-suites. Research work going on in the field of:
- Embedded architectures for intelligent handheld devices enabled with on-line learning.
- Architecture Synthesis Methodology for Streaming Applications
- Cryptographic Hardware for embedded systems resistant to power attack.
