Research and Courses
Tensilica technology was successfully introduced into the CS curriculum at the tech. Univ. Darmstadt (Germany) in the course "Processor Architecture for High-Performance Embedded Systems". This survey class covers the entire spectrum of fixed ISA, configurable ISA, reconfigurable ISA and fully reconfigurable (adaptive) computers. The Tensilica segment introduced both the basic architecture, TIE language, and design tools (including the XPRES compiler). Students also do simple labs (color conversion, bit-over reversal, etc.) to gain practical experience in the use of the tools. The class was first offered in the winter term and attended by 23 students, who evaluated the lectures and exercises very positively. The class is offered regularly every fall term (the next on beginning October 15, 2007.
