VEDA IIT's Research
VLSI 104: VLSI Architecture for RISC processors and DSPs (Major portion of semester course covers Xtensa)
- Xtensa: Introduction, Architecture, Features, Building blocks, Xtensa Interface, Memory, Interrupts, Tensilica Instruction Extension, Pipeline in Xtensa, Hazards, Xtensa Local Memory - Cache, RAMs, ROM, Xtensa Local Memory Interface (XLMI) - Introduction, Features, Signals, Timings, Stalls, Xtensa Processor Interface (PIF)
VLSI 110: DSP & RISC Programming Lab
- Simple programs to give an extensive practice on the usage of different instructions and features of Xtensa using the simulator (ISS) in a stand alone mode.
- Good number of assignments with problems covering the application of following operations using Xtensa instructions
- Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Modulo operation, Shifting, use of different data types, block moves, etc.
Method: Writing a function in assembly code for the given problem and implementing the same in 'C' code and comparing the results.
- Simple custom device modeling and using the same in a uniprocessor and multiprocessor environment using XTMP
- Custom devices are simple FIFOs, Timers, DMA, etc.
Method: Modeling the environment, Implementing the device functionality and building the application.
