sci-worx offers a range of multi-standard, multi-resolution video encode and decode subsystems. These subsystems cover the entire range of resolutions from QCIF to HD and are programmable to support all video codecs such as H.264, VC1/WM9, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, AVS, Real, Nero, DivX, etc.

These video subsystems are designed as complete drop-in SOC modules that consist of the video processor(s), the DMA engine, and local memories. These video subsystems take in a video stream as input, perform bit-stream parsing, and then encode or decode the video stream as requested. The video subsystems do not require an additional external processor or require the host processor to do any of the bit-stream parsing.

MuviStar Product Line

The Muvistar product line from sci-worx is a programmable video subsystem targeted at low power, low cost mobile handsets, personal media players, camcorders, etc. Muvistar is completely based on the Xtensa processor and uses TIE extensively to accelerate the video codecs.

Muvistar can decode and encode from CIF to D1 of H.264 baseline profile and supports most popular video codecs such as VC1/WM9, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, and more.

MSVD_HD Video Subsystem

The MSVD_HD video sub-system from sci-worx is a dual-stream HD (high-defintion) stream decode platform that uses the Xtensa processor for bit stream parsing. It is the smallest synthesizable multi-format, high-definition video sub-system on the market and targeted at the set-top box, DVD, PVR, and IPTV markets.

MSVD_HD can simultaneously decode multiple streams of multiple standards. For example, it can decode two H.264 HD streams or one HD H.264 stream and one HD MPEG-4 stream. This enables advanced features such as program preview and multiple thumbnail streams. MSVD_HD supports H.264 Main and High Profile, VC-1 up to Advanced Profile, MPEG-2 Main Profile, and MPEG-1.
