Sophia Systems Offering JTAG Emulator, UniSTACTM/J for Xtensa, for Tensilica's Xtensa IP

Tokyo, Japan , Nov. 16, 2000 ... Sophia Systems Co., Ltd., Japan's market leader in the embedded microcomputer systems development field, announced today their partnership with Tensilica Inc. (U.S.), and the development of a microcomputer development system that supports the Tensilica Xtensa series of high-performance configurable 32-bit RISC microprocessor cores.

The company has become a partner in the "Tensilica Xtensions™ Network" Alliance, a worldwide family of third party organizations providing support to Tensilica licensees.

UniSTAC/J for Xtensa for the Tensilica Xtensa series is a low-cost debugging tool using a JTAG debug function implemented on the MPU. This emulator provides high-level debugging capabilities, such as on-chip debugging and branch trace. This emulator includes Windows 95/98/NT/2000-based WATCHPOINT as a source level debugger supporting C/C++. Sophia Systems is currently exhibiting the UniSTAC/J for Xtensa at the MST 2000 trade show in Tokyo.

“It is faster and easier to design complex SOCs using Xtensa configurable processors - especially when using the XPRES Compiler - than to hand-code complex SOC design elements in hardware using traditional RTL methods. Plus the Xtensa processors are programmable, so it will be valuable for future products and applications.”

- Katsuhiko Nishizawa, general manager of the IJP Design Department of the Imaging Products Operations Division of Seiko Epson Corporation.
