DVD recorder sales are projected to surpass unit
volumes of DVD players as prices continue to fall.
The price drops are largely attributable to the cost
reductions due to increasing integration, resulting
in fewer chips. DVD recorders not only decode/transcode
MPEG2 streams, but also must support encoding of
video streams. Many processors are usually employed
in a DVD recorder chip: system control processor,
audio codec processor, storage control processor,
and multiple processors for video encoding/decoding/transcoding.
Tensilica's Diamond Standard 330HiFi is an optimized, drop-in solution for portable music applications, with a complete set of software codecs for multiple popular audio standards. For additional optimizations, our HiFi 2 Audio Engine is also available.
Tensilica's Diamond Standard 38xVDO family is a set of four video engines optimized for portable devices, with a complete set of software encoders and decoders for popular video standards.
Tensilica’s Xtensa processors are often used
in multiple-processor chip designs. A single Xtensa
processor can be used for the system control and
audio codec functions. Multiple Xtensa LX processors
can be used to build the MPEG video pipeline by linking
them through a high-speed,
direct interface.
Utilizing a single programmable architecture simplifies
system design, while still allowing extremely high
performance through custom audio and video instructions.
